Women’s Initiative Network - WINing at IAM
“Gender Equality Today for A Sustainable Tomorrow”
Mission
Our mission is to improve social experiences for all women at IAM while celebrating their successes big and small. Women make up a large and important constituency of IAM and the Minnesota Indian Community, and the Committee will work to identify women’s concerns and address them through dialogue, community, and collective action.
Current Team
Tanwi, Meena, SriVidya (for now) and will include all women on the board for the current year.
Goals

- Provide a platform for women to create sustainable social network within IAM
- Identify and give prominence to women’s issues
- Provide a safe and empowering space for women in IAM to share their concerns
- WIN also aims to create an open and honest environment.
- Recognize and promote diversity of gender and identity, inclusivity, collaborate with other groups across IAM and their partners.
Pillars of WIN
Our events and projects will mostly be centered around these 4 areas.
- Health and Wellness in Women ( Eg Pink Garba)
- Careers in Women- Contributing women in various fields and careers
- Call to Action (Eg bring attention to issues like Domestic Violence, LGBTQ+ issues)
- Self Empowerment, History and Celebration
Structure
WIN shall be governed and organized by an Executive Committee – comprising X members (see below). The number making up the Executive Committee can change over time. The committee will have a chair and a vice-chair. Because WIN was founded as an avenue for women to express their concerns and to act as advocates for women’s issues, the majority of the Executive Committee shall be women.
Membership
WIN is open to everyone and welcomes ALL women on the IAM board, Associate board, Interns and Past Presidents and representatives from Partner orgs. WIN must have at least 2 board members and the rest could be non-board. Members are chosen based on their interest to serve in WIN. The committee can operate with a minimum of three(3) members but can have up to ten(10) members.
Terms & Reporting
Chairperson: Chairperson will be required to be a member of the IAM board. She will be appointed by the IAM President.
Terms: Executive Committee members shall hold the position for one (1) year but can remain on the committee as a member/advisor in the consecutive 3 years.
Reporting: Committee reports to the IAM board and is part of IAM.
Meetings & Action
Meetings: The WIN Executive Committee will meet monthly for planning and strategic purposes. One(1) quarterly board meeting to inform the board members and provide updates.
Outreach
This team will work on actively engaging with other partner groups to develop strategic alliances and partnerships for events or on ongoing women-related projects. Will help position WIN as a valuable collaborative partner and promotional ambassador for Women’s causes in IAM.
Operations
This team will support Event Leads with space and logistics planning for all WIN events.
