Uma Venkat has been an active member of the India Association of Minnesota since 2024, beginning her service as Acting Treasurer and subsequently serving as Treasurer in 2025. In 2026, she continues her commitment to IAM as a Board Member, with a focus on contributing to bylaws revision, supporting the organization’s strategic transition, and providing continued guidance to the Finance Committee. Drawing on her extensive background in government finance, Uma has played a key role in streamlining IAM’s financial processes and strengthening its budgeting and fiscal oversight. Since relocating to Minnesota in 2013, Uma has served as Finance Director at Minnesota IT (MNIT), State of Minnesota. With over 25 years of experience in accounting, finance, and public-sector financial management, she brings deep expertise in budgeting, governance, and financial operations. Her professional journey in the United States began at the Michigan Department of Treasury, Bureau of Bond Finance, where she spent a decade before transitioning to her current role in IT finance with MNIT. Born to parents from Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Uma spent her early childhood in Tanzania and Zambia before pursuing higher education in accounting and finance in the United Kingdom. She later moved to the United States to advance her career and completing her CPA exams, building a professional path grounded in public service and financial stewardship. Uma resides in Woodbury with her two daughters. Her elder daughter is pursuing a master's at Boston University, and her younger daughter is a senior at East Ridge High School. A devoted single mother, Uma balances professional responsibilities with family life. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, singing, and listening to Carnatic music, reflecting her deep cultural roots and diverse life experiences.
